Activities Committee

ActivitiesThe central purpose of this committee is to plan and coordinate alumni-friendly activities throughout the year for the benefit of the Chapter.  Our activities are designed to help promote closer relationships - both personally and professionally between Chapter members - and to help promote the Chapter to alumni living throughout the Washington, DC metropolitan area.  Highlighted below is just a small snapshot of the kinds of Chapter activities that this committee has been responsible for:

Cultural/Art Events: The Chapter's cultural events have included evenings at the Kennedy Center and Arena Stage.

Social Events:  The Chapter holds social events such as happy hours and VSU basketball and football pre- and post fellowships throughout the year. We have also partnered with local area HBCU alumni chapters in events such as the HBCU Council 5-mile walk and the Inter-Alumni Council of the Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund Basketball Tournament.

Chapter Events:  In addition to the chapter's five annual events - see the section on chapter events - the Chapter has organized events such as Westfield Works Wonders, a night at Jokes on Us Comedy Club and Dave and Buster's, an evening with the Virginia State University Concert Choir, bus trips to the University's annual Open House (or High School Day), and coming soon a Super Bowl Party. We also often participate in events that are organized and promoted by Virginia State University, such as Homecoming's Jazz on the Hill, Alumni Weekend and Commencement, the President's Scholarship Golf Tournament, and Founder's Day.

Sporting Events:  In addition to organizing bus trips to see the Mighty Trojans in action, the Chapter also tries to reserve a block of seats at professional local area sporting events as a fun way to fellowship with Chapter members and fellow area alumni. Events we've hosted include games to see the Washington Wizards and the Washington Nationals.  We would love to see you at one of our upcoming Chapter activities and/or events.
